Dear friends,

We would like to welcome you on the internet pages of Prague representation of European Confederation of Workers Co-operatives and the enterprise of associated work, Social Co-operatives and Participative Enterprises (CECOP), which officially inaugurate its activity on 25th January 1999.

The CECOP office in Prague was opened in the frame of the CECOP-EST project, which is implemented in a co-operation with and a great deal is funded by the European Commission. The involvement of the EC in this project is a expression of their support of the co-operative development, which is seen as a modern form of enterprise. The bodies of European Commission know, that co-operative enterprise plays an important role in the economy of every country and they see in it, one of the many ways how to solve the complicated social-economic situation, particularly in the area of employment.

The CECOP-EST project is one of many activities of CECOP in the states of central and eastern Europe region. At the present time, the project involves national associations of Workers Co-operatives of Bulgaria (National Union of Workers Co-operatives), Poland (National Auditing Union of Workers Co-operatives), Slovakia (Slovak Union of Producer's Co-operatives) and the Czech republic (Union of Czech and Moravian Producer Co-operatives), but it is presupposed that other countries of this European region will join in, inclusive the states of former Soviet Union.

The office of Prague is a co-ordinating place of all activities of CECOP in the countries of central and eastern Europe and through the mediation of this office the mother organisation realises its political program in this region. In every country involved in the CECOP-EST project works a national co-ordinator, who is in a running contact with the office of Prague and through the mediation of the office subsequently with Brussels.

Fundamental long term goals of this project could be formulated into 3 groups:

1. Support of the co-operative development

2. To help out with the preparations of the co-operative sector to incorporate into the EU structures (in connection with the future entrance into EU)

3. To create means of communication, co-ordination and partnership within the workers co-operatives of the region of central and eastern Europe, together with the partners from EU states.

The opening and all the activities of the office of Prague are under auspices of SÈMVD, because this workplace is embodied into its structures. SÈMVD is a member of CECOP and the president is one of the vice-chairmen of the confederation and he is responsible for the area of the development of co-operation and partnership with countries of central and eastern Europe.

On our internet pages, you can find information of business-marketing character about all member co-operatives of every national union VD countries, that are involved in the project. These information will be extended and of course actualised, and they will allow you to directly contact those workers co-operatives which are for some reason the object of your interest.
